The Internet NewsBrief is also available on the Web at: http://www.epa.gov/natlibra/hqirc/inb.htm ** EPA INFORMATION ** Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (OECA) - Environmental Justice http://es.epa.gov/oeca/oejbut.html President Clinton issued Executive Order 12898 on February 11, 1994, to establish environmental justice as a national priority. This was the first Presidential effort to direct all federal agencies with a public health or environmental mission to make environmental justice an integral part of their policies and activities. This site includes links to the full text of the Executive Order and related documents, National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC) information and publications, a calendar of environmental justice - related events, EPA publications, environmental justice grants and a link to environmental justice programs at other Federal Agencies. ** GOVERNMENT INFORMATION ** U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - The Office of Minority Health Resource Center http://www.omhrc.gov/ The Office of Minority Health (OMH) was established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 1985. It advises the Secretary and the Office of Public Health and Science on public health program activities affecting American Indian and Alaska Native, African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Hispanic populations. OMH has the objective of promoting improved health in ethnic and racial minorities. This website includes links to publications, databases, project listings, a Resource Persons Network, and a section of relevant Federal Register notices, which are periodically updated. ** INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION ** The Arctic Circle - University of Connecticut http://arcticcircle.uconn.edu/ Arctic Circle originated during a symposium on 'The Use of the World Wide Web in Education', sponsored by the Faculty Resource Laboratory at the University of Connecticut in February of 1995. This 'electronic circle' has three stated themes: natural resources; history and culture; social equity and environmental justice with the objective of 'stimulating a greater interest in the peoples and environment of the Arctic and Subarctic region'. This site includes links to government and non-government agencies , and additional resources which include a Social Equity and Environmental Justice segment. **NONPROFIT INFORMATION ** The Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice http://www.ccaej.org/ The Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice serves as a resource center for community groups working on environmental justice issues. The goal of the Center is to build a strong movement for change that recognizes the connections between environmental and worker exploitation, and oppression on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation and class, and incorporates that connection into the primary activities of the Center. It provides information/publications; direct assistance to groups; outreach, referral and network development, and training/leadership development. The site lists upcoming events, sponsors, and links to projects, communities at risk, rural communities, chemicals and community health, and money and politics. The Center is located in Riverside, CA. Environmental Health Coalition http://www.environmentalhealth.org/ Environmental Health Coalition (EHC) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1980. EHC has taken its direction from the communities of San Diego/Tijuana and many of its long-term projects are the result of providing technical and organizing assistance to populations adversely affected by toxic chemicals. This site includes links to current projects, publications and a 'Hot Topic' section.
