I wanted to let you know about a conference called Cleaning Up Our Valley which will take place next Saturday, January 23 starting at 8:30 am at the Westminster Church at 1100 Shasta Avenue in San Jose (at the corner of the Alemeda). It is sponsored by the Presbytery of San Jose, the National Presbyterian Church's Mission Responsibility Through Investment (MRTI) committee, which is involved in share holder resolutions about the enviornment ( working with ICCR), and the Bay Area Interfaith Council on Economic and Environmental Justice. The agenda includes panels on the impacts of high-tech development on workers, communties, and international standards. Panelists will include reps from SVTC, the Santa Clara Center for Occupational Health and SAfety, as well as env managers from IBM and AMD. It will be followed by a toxic tour of selected sites throughout Silicon Valley. We have been working with the religious community for a few years now, and this promises to be an intersting day.
