Earth Tools allows you to find the elevation of a point plus the time, sun position, distance and more.
Using the Map
The map allows you to control the point that EarthTools uses to provide sunset/sunrise times, height, etc. Search results and other information are also displayed on the map. The map uses a standard Google Maps interface which you may have seen elsewhere.
To move the map you can drag it around or use the arrow and zoom buttons in the upper-left corner. You can centre the map on a point by double-clicking. Numbered markers will appear whenever a search is performed - you can click on a marker to find out what it represents and also to recentre the map or zoom in to that point.
How to Find Places
Sponsors
The Place Finder tool provides the ability to search for places from a database of over 5.5 million names. Simply enter the name of the place you want to search for in the box and click Go. The first 100 results will be displayed in list form in the tool bar as well as being highlighted with markers on the map. The results should be roughly ordered as to how closely they matched your query.
If more than 100 places are found, you won't be able to see the rest of the results. If you haven't already done so, select a country from the drop-down list to refine your search to a particular country (you will need to click Go again to perform the search again).
When entering your query, just enter the name of the place without adding any country or other administrative area information. For example, if you want to search for Birmingham in the United States, enter Birmingham in the search box and select United States of America from the drop-down country list. Searches of the form Birmingham, AL or Birmingham, Alabama don't currently work (but I am working on making them work!).
