Arctic to be Ice-Free in Summer - The Arctic Ocean could be largely ice-free and open to shipping during the summer in as little as ten years.
Climate change hitting Arctic faster, harder - The new study found that change was occurring in all arctic systems, impacting on the atmosphere and oceans, sea ice and ice sheets, snow and permafrost, as well as species and populations, food webs, ecosystems and human societies.
The War to End All Wars - Day by day, before our eyes, the planet is deteriorating: ice caps are melting, weather systems shifting, and the poorest are finding themselves facing life-threatening water shortages. Our wildlife is suffering, species are being lost before our children even have a chance to witness them in all their beauty.
Food Crisis Rippling Out Like a "Tsunami" - A rolling tsunami of social unrest is underway as we speak - hungry people are desperate people capable of taking desperate actions. This tsunami is rapidly enveloping the global South, and it won't take much longer before it knocks at the door of the global North
Zones of Death Are Spreading in Oceans Due to Global Warming - Researchers found that the warming of sea water through climate change is reducing its ability to carry dissolved oxygen, potentially turning swathes of the world's oceans into marine graveyards.
Exxon Facing Shareholder Revolt Over Approach to Climate Change - Exxon is facing a rebellion from its investors over its hardline approach to global warming. The firm has refused to follow rival oil companies in committing large-scale capital investment to environmentally friendly technology such as wind and solar power.
Earth Impacts Linked to Human-Caused Climate Change - "This is the first study to link global temperature data sets, climate model results, and observed changes in a broad range of physical and biological systems to show the link between humans, climate, and impacts," said Rosenzweig, lead author of the study.
Hansen: Climate Target Is Not Radical Enough - In a startling reappraisal of the threat, James Hansen, head of the Nasa Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, calls for a sharp reduction in C02 limits.

Ten Billion Acres - Since 1492 Human Civilization has cleared nearly 10 Billion Acres of Trees - part of the matrix of life on earth that supplies the oxygen we need to breathe. We've cut down many more, but many have re-grown. That means we have about 54% less trees and plants on Earth today. The clearing was done mainly by civilization's expansion and fires. Logging and Wood Industries are generally respectful of the forests and replant forest areas they perform logging activities in so that new growth will eventually become wood products (with some noteworthy exceptions). Civilization has also cleared plant life in corresponding amounts.
Climate Change and Sea Level - Shoreline geomorphology, erosion, deposition, and subsidence, tide range and wave height, engineered structures such as jetties and seawalls, and elevation above sea level are some of the many factors that determine the degree to which a coastal area is susceptible to sea level rise. Of these, elevation data are available for any location of the globe and are very effective in depicting and communicating to the public areas that may be susceptible to sea level rise.
Cool California - Welcome to CoolCalifornia.org. Virtually everything we do results in the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, mostly in the form of carbon dioxide. Cool California is a collaboration of state government, academia, and NGOs working together to develop an innovative carbon calculator that helps California households, individuals and communities evaluate their climate-related performance, while assisting users in making more informed decisions so they can reduce their carbon footprints effectively.
GIS Climate Change Scenarios project is conducted by the NCAR GIS Initiative and intended to serve a community of GIS users interested in climate change. This GIS data portal provides access to free global datasets of climate change scenarios generated for the 4th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) by the Community Climate System Model (CCSM). The datasets can be downloaded in a common GIS format (i.e., shapefiles) or text file format. Currently, our GIS portal distributes a subset of all the data produced by the CCSM. One can view and/or download global monthly mean, 2D atmospheric and land variables from the CCSM component models.
Climateprediction.net is the largest experiment to try and produce a forecast of the climate in the 21st century. To do this, we need people around the world to give us time on their computers - time when they have their computers switched on, but are not using them to their full capacity.
BBC Climate Challenge Online Game - The BBC has produced a Flash-based "Climate Challenge" that puts you at the helm of Europe as "President." Your goal is to curb carbon emissions and pull in the reigns on global warming without running the economy in to the ground or upsetting constituents to the point that you're booted from office, and it does a pretty fair job of highlighting the complexities of maintaining the balance without being impossibly difficult.

National Academies: "June 22 -- There is sufficient evidence from tree rings, retreating glaciers, and other "proxies" to say with confidence that the last few decades of the 20th century were warmer than any comparable period in the last 400 years, according to a new National Research Council report. There is less confidence in reconstructions of surface temperatures from 1600 back to A.D. 900, and very little confidence in findings on average temperatures before then."
