Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science
The Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science is specifically designed for professionals and practitioners from a diverse range of areas who want to acquire and build their knowledge and skills within geographic information science (GIScience). Students are not expected to have any spatial science background to enter the course. This course is also fully available by distance learning via the Internet and forms the first stage of the Graduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science.

Entrance requirements
A degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary educational institution. The qualification may be in any discipline. Students enrolling in this course are assumed to have a background in mathematics and statistics equivalent to first year university level.
Recognition of prior learning
Applications for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are assessed on an individual basis. Upon graduation, students are eligible to enrol directly in the Graduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science and will be eligible for 100 credits of RPL in that award.
Duration and availability
This course is normally undertaken on a part-time basis over one year. Part-time and distance study is only available to Australian resident students and international students studying outside Australia . It is also possible to complete this course in one semester depending on unit availability.

The student's study program consists of two foundation units which reflect the field of geographic information science. These units are extended by two specialist options in the broad area of the spatial sciences. The individual optional units must be approved by the course coordinator. All units are 25 credits.
