The Graduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science is specifically designed for graduates in biology, agriculture, mathematics, planning, business, geography, computing, planning, business, geography, computing, environmental science, geology and related fields who seek intensive training in geographic information systems, principles and applications. Prospective students may be dealing with applications such as environmental and natural resources management, exploration and mining, land ownership and titles, urban and regional planning, utilities and asset management, demographic marketing, and many more. Students are not expected to have any spatial science background to enter this course. Employment prospects are excellent. The course can be studied by on-campus study or can be fully completed by distance study via the Internet.

Entrance requirements
A degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary educational institution. The qualification may be in any discipline. Students enrolling in this course are assumed to have a background in mathematics and statistics equivalent to first year university level.
Recognition of prior learning
Applications for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are assessed on an individual basis. RPL of 100 credits will be given to students having completed the Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science from Curtin.
Duration and availability
This course is available by full-time study over one year or part-time over two years or more. Part-time and distance study is only available to Australian resident students and international students studying outside Australia.

This course consists of five foundation units which reflect the field of geographic information science (GIScience). These units are extended by three specialist options in the broader areas of spatial information. All units are 25 credits.
