DraconesPH is a public health surveillance application. It is an example of a complete application that can be built using the Dracones framework components. The development of the initial version was funded in part by GeoConnections, and is currently running at the Direction de sante publique de Montreal (Montreal Public Health), where it serves as an add-on for the visual exploration and analysis of their massive, non-spatially enabled datasets.
The data from an external Oracle database is first geocoded, and the results stored in a PostGIS database, that Dracones then mixes with other spatial layers. This has demonstrated an easy and powerful way of extending the capabilities of an existing complex information system, with a web mapping application.
SaTScan Visualization
Another interesting aspect of this application is the fact that it's connected to SaTScan, a spatial and temporal scan statistics software for the detection of clusters. Once a set of cases have been queried and displayed on the map, the user can perform a SaTScan analysis and visualize (and directly interact with) the resulting clusters.
